The Aware Mind Podcast will be up by the sometime this September and there will be a link to it here.
This podcast is a broadcast of “Eduction Level 00” from the spring semester of 1981 that was presented for college students. Edux is not just meant for students.
The podcast of “Eduction Level 00” represents the first and foundational level of the course. While the principles of Eduction remained constant throughout the years, Dr. Lawson continuously sought to improve their presentation to students through continuous experimentation according to the principles themselves. Thus, no two semesters of Eduction were ever alike.
Accordingly, “Eduction Level 00” circa Spring of 1981 by no means represents the entire three level course. To experience Edux, one has to begin somewhere, and this podcast is a free and accessible introduction.
Those of you who have already taken Eduction (EDUX) courses of Dr. Lawson’s will need no introduction to the concept and the value of these courses.
Hopefully, you will want to revisit the courses that influenced you so much when you were young(er), and introduce them to family members and friends so that they can realize similar benefits.
For those of you who are new and curious as to what the exciting field of Edux is, welcome! You are in for what can become one of the best experiences of your lives! Come explore with us your awareness of yourself, your percepts, concepts, and the concepts of the word around you.
Dr. Lawson, a decorated Physics professor, was concerned with what he saw as the rapid de-humanization of man, and he wanted to help people lead richer, more fulfilling and satisfying lives. To that end he developed his theories from processes he had developed and used for himself personally, and in his physics endeavors.
As you may have noticed, times have become much more de-humanizing than when Dr. Lawson first started experimenting with Eduction, beginning in the forties and fifties, at Cornell, Rensselaer, Harvard, Princeton and other universities.
Now that the Covid-19 virus has driven us further indoors, and further apart from each other, people have been clamoring for things to help them deal with issues they have never dealt with before. People are confused. I believe there has never been a better way to deal with confusion and gaining new insights into how to deal with problems than Edux. That’s not just my opinion. Take a look at some of the testimonials from the Eduction program of the late seventies to early nineties.
Decidedly, Edux is not merely a simple, pop-culture answer to the complex issues of life. Thus it’s not really easy to provide a definition. Dr. Lawson was loathe to define or codify it, explaining rather, that it was a process that had to be experienced. One thing I can promise is that this course is nothing like what you have experienced before.
One salient point that you will notice after listening and working with the podcasts for awhile is that Edux deals with experiences – not information. There is nothing to learn by rote memory, no “facts” to accept. This is entirely counter-intuitive to what you may have experienced with “self-help” courses you may have encountered before. It is a refreshing alternative to the “rah-rah” motivational pap that is generally offered.
A benefit of the podcast, in contrast to the original lectures, is that you can rewind and replay the podcast at your leisure. When I originally took Edux, I found some lectures pretty hard to follow. The podcast gives you as many opportunities as you like to go over each concept when you feel you may not have “gotten it” the first time.
A former student of Dr. Lawson’s, I learned and benefitted from his classes at the time and find that I still do, to this day. I maintained a friendship with him through correspondence and occasional visits for two decades while I traveled, and I eventually decided to return to the town where I went to school, and where he lived, so I could continue to learn from him. I helped him organize his papers and recordings, and when he passed away, his family entrusted me with them, with the understanding that I would use current technology to keep his ideas and materials alive and relevant. Presenting them here, online, was my natural goal.
Dr. Lawson would have been a hundred years old by 2021, and there is nothing more I could think of doing to honor him and his legacy than to make one of his courses available, online to anyone who would like to take it. The course is not easy, but nothing rewarding really is, is it?
Depending on logistics, my intent it to offer a full-blown online course, complete with feedback, forums, etc., sometime in the future. Until then, this podcast should suffice as a fine introduction to Eduction Theory and its benefits, if you have the patience and will do the work. Until then, please allow me to reference you to the donations page.
Caveat – Dr. Lawson’s EDUX is not related to anything anyone else is offering under that name.
